Help with compiling

I am running Mandrake 9.1.  I've never had any luck compiling software, but I
want to use some graphical MUD clients (ie KMUD or others) and most of them
require compiling.  WHile trying to use the RPM src file I get an error that "X
includes can't be located"  or something to that effect.

What am I missing?  Some X devel packages or something?
