All of the usernames are shorter than 8 char in length, as stipulated by policy. However, I was able to resolve the problem by using an older version of the ssod program. I'm not sure why that worked, or what was broken in the newer version, but until I have time to implement a better solution, this will have to work for now.<br>

I'm using ssod to password sync between a AD server and my RHEL 5.1 box. Everything was working smoothly until I discovered that it chokes when synchronizing passwords longer than 8 characters in length. I did some googling, but found nothing relevant other than "ssod does not officially support RHEL 5".<br>

The last time I had to deal with the 8 character passwd length issue was back on a RedHat 7.3 box, and a pam update fixed that right away. I'm not quite sure where to start with this one. Any suggestions is appreciated :)<br>
