You are correct. Hard to imagine, but people who built wagons ( even
after the Romans ) had to space the wheels to run in the ruts created
by the Romans. The same "jigs" used to produce the wagon wheel sets
were used in the U.S. and no doubt elsewhere to produce RR car wheel
sets---it was just the easiest way to go. And there we are...<br>

You are correct about gradual progression IMO. We all seem to resist
change to some extent, and I do think (just IMHO) we grow more
resistant to change as we grow older.<br>

Don't worry about turning 50 yo. It's really all about attitude and
mine must have been bad. Hitting 50 was, for me, like being hit by a RR
train. I wonder if Linux will reach 50 yo. I doubt it, but what would
it be like at that age? Old and resistant to change ;-)!<br>

I think the railroad track spacing has to do with the spacing of the wheels on
a Roman Chariot. Yes some things never change but sometimes there is a gradual
progression and you can trace back the lineage...
I'm willing to bet that you though nobody knew that..
