I'm not necessarily opposed to Wal-Mart selling "Build-your-own
Computers", but I am concerned with the quality of products they sell
now as well as those they will sell. And I think you should at least be
conerned also. It's a secret I guess, but Wal-Mart has achieved
low-pricing in part by doing things more efficiently. That's the good
news. But they also have achieve low prices by forcing ( well, inducing
) manufacturers of various products to introduce product lines of
lesser quality than is available elsewhere. Of course, few people
notice the difference. The President of Snapper Lawn Mowers refused to
compromise his product so that they would be sold at Walmart. And this
fellow was an admirer of Walmart--he just refused to build a Snapper
mower of lower quality than people had come to expect. So expect that
Seagate, or other disk drive or component sold at Walmart to possibly
be of lesser quality and reliability than the more expensive one you
might buy elsewhere. Just a thought.<br>

Hint: check the jeans you bought at Walmart against some purchased
elsewhere.<br>

The fact is that I can prove _none of this_. But much of the
information above came from a well-known business magazine. Maybe I
have too much time on my hands.<br>

You can probably tell I'm not a big fan of Wal-Mart. Since Wal-Mart has
put so many "Mom and Pop" retail stores out of business, causing my
neighbors to end up working at Wal-Mart or simply go w/o a job, I tend
to avoid them. Options to Wal-Mart are getting increasingly limited.<br>
