<p>Jonathon Cobb is a founder of Waypoint Technology Group, an Albany-based
GPS solutions company. He has over fifteen years of varied professional
experience in GPS/GIS applications, civil and environmental
engineering, and GPS technology sales, consulting and training. At
Waypoint, he is responsible for project management and technical
supervision of field mapping projects involving GPS data collection and
development of GPS and GIS mapping applications and integrated
solutions. He is also a sales representative for GPS survey &
mapping grade systems manufactured by Trimble Navigation, Ltd., and is
a certified GPS Mapping Systems Trainer for Trimble Pathfinder and
GeoExplorer GIS Data Collection Systems.</p><p><br></p>
<p>This session will focus on the benefits, limitations, and planned
improvements to the global positioning system (GPS), and the networks
that complement and enhance it. The presentation will cover basic GPS
concepts, common and advanced GPS applications, and include a
discussion about the current status of the GPS and augmentation
technologies. The session will culminate with a preview of the
Department of Defenses GPS modernization program and the progress of
