the point i was trying to make before i knew the drive had lilo written to the mbr (the windows drive) is that windows doesnt need anything written to the mbr, in fact, if you fdisk /mbr on a windows drive, it will still boot after doing so<BR>

boot device (the Linux HD) to be able to finish.
If you yank the boot device you can;t boot. Windows is still there but the
boot loader is pointing to the wrong location.
The short answer is if you don't want Linux on the box anymore run fdisk /mbr
as first mentioned and then reboot, windows will start.
