I believe the rpm will install to where it's internal instructions tell it too, or so I've always believed. I installed Mandrake 9.0 and it did not install my cd-rom drive correctly in the /etc/fstab file, a quick fix but was a little annoying, I went on to install RedHat 8.0 over it in the end, RH is just becoming a personal preference at this point.
