Sony seems to be the most active in this freakin drm bullshit. I
recently had a client go out and get himself a sony mp3 player (actually
a gift from his wife). Anyway, being a client of mine he wanted to get
it workin in Linux. So, he plugs it in, drive pops up on the desktop, he
can drag and drop mp3's onto it just fine, they show up fine UNTIL he
disconnects it from the pc, then NOTHING SHOWS! He plugs it back in, the
songs are all there, can even play them on the device using Linux. Found
out after some googlin that the Sony software (windows freakin only) is
required because it actually, now this is how it is designed mind you,
takes the mp3's you want to put on it and CONVERTS them into Sony's
PROPRIETARY format of ATRAC3!!!!!! NOWHERE on the package does it
explain that this is how it functions. Now I know this is not an M$
thing but just WHO is this suppose to be benefiting??? ONLY available to
Windows clients?? I know this is nothing knew but times are changing and
this is not acceptable by ANY means, just as how John's cd is not! This
drm shit is going to get completely out of hand. My client who is now a
complete Linux guy absolutely flipped when this above was found out.
Where does Sony get the balls to do this? According to the googling that
I found when researching this, Sony is pissing off ALOT of people.
Anyway, to Mark's comment, yes he made a good point but I think the
point Bob was making is as his subject line read, "Another reason not to
use M$ products", is just that, their products! What choice is there but
to blame the OS when that is the ONLY choice?
